Doctors, Physicians Take on the NRA: ‘This is Our Lane’

One day after the horrific mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, California, in which 12 people were shot and killed and dozens more were injured, the NRA chose to attack the medical community, offensively tweeting that “self-important anti-gun doctors” should “stay in their lane:”

The impetus for the NRA’s shameful attack was a position paper from the American College of Physicians, which outlined its official policy positions and recommendations for reducing deaths and injuries from firearms in the United States. That same day, the CDC published new data indicating that the death toll from gun violence in our nation continues to rise. All through the weekend, in response to the NRA’s tweet, physicians, doctors, nurses and medical professionals from across the United States took on the NRA, rightfully claiming “This is our lane” and describing their experiences treating patients in the aftermath of gun violence.
