November 1, 2019

At Least Four People Were Shot and Killed, and at Least Four People Were Wounded in a Shooting on Thursday Night

ORINDA, Calif. – The California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after a shooting in Orinda on Halloween night. Reports indicate that four people were shot and killed and at least four others were wounded in a shooting at a party at a short-term rental home in Orinda, California.

Just days before, on Tuesday evening, there was a shooting at a Southern California Halloween party where three people were shot and killed and nine people were wounded.

“We should be free to celebrate Halloween with our friends and family without fear of gun violence,” said Nichole Hsu, a volunteer leader with the California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We’re heartbroken to hear that gun violence has devastated another community. This shooting is another deadly reminder that we must do more to end gun violence in California and across the country.”

“I grew up celebrating Halloween in the East Bay, just a few miles from this shooting in Orinda,” said Roni Weissman, a Students Demand Action National Advisory Board Member from the Bay Area. “We should all feel free to celebrate Halloween without fearing that gunfire might break out. This tragic shooting is another reminder that we absolutely must do more to stop these senseless acts of gun violence.”
