BREAKING: Everytown Responds to Reported FEC Investigation Into “Whether NRA Got Illegal Russian Donations”

March 16, 2018

Politico Reports FEC Has Launched Investigation Into Whether “Russian Entities Gave Illegal Contributions to the National Rifle Association” During 2016 Election, When NRA Spent at Least $30 Million to Elect Trump

Sen. Ron Wyden Set March 19 Deadline for NRA to Respond to Letter Seeking Detailed Information On Whether Russian Entities Contributed Money to NRA Accounts

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statement today in response to a report by Politico that “the Federal Election Commission has launched a preliminary investigation into whether Russian entities gave illegal contributions to the National Rifle Association that were intended to benefit the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.”

STATEMENT BY JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“The public needs to know whether the NRA took Russian money when it spent record amounts to elect President Trump in the 2016 election. Until the NRA comes clean, on Russian money and its many ties to individuals in Putin’s orbit, Americans are left wondering what the NRA is hiding.”

The NRA spent $55 million – or perhaps more than $70 million, according to McClatchy — to influence the 2016 elections, with at least $30 million going to elect President Donald Trump, but the NRA does not have to disclose all of its donors, making it difficult to tell where the majority of the money came from.
