CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. — The Wisconsin chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded after authorities said shootings in two Chippewa County locations left a total of five people dead, including the shooter, and wounded two others. Three of the people killed were related to the shooter, the Associated Press reported, citing law enforcement officials.
This shooting is at least the 15th mass shooting this year, according to research by Everytown for Gun Safety. The majority of mass shootings in the U.S. are related to domestic or family violence, according to an Everytown analysis of mass shootings between 2009 and 2017.
Everytown defines mass shootings as shootings in which four or more people are killed, not including the shooter.
“Our thoughts are with each of the families affected by this tragedy,” said Brooke Shawver, a volunteer with the Wisconsin chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We need to do all we can to protect Wisconsin families from gun violence.”
