Virginia Moms Demand Action Respond to Texas Shooting, Demand That Virginia Politicians Renounce Ties to NRA in Advance of Election Tomorrow

November 17, 2017

Sunday Shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, is at Least the Ninth Mass Shooting in 2017 and the 165th since 2009

Virginia Politicians Ed Gillespie, Jill Vogel and John Adams Have All Accepted Support from the NRA

– The Virginia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today called on politicians Ed Gillespie, Jill Vogel and John Adams to renounce their ties to the National Rifle Association after a mass shooting in Texas where 26 people were shot and killed and 20 were injured. Gillespie, Vogel and Adams are all NRA endorsed and have been helped by the gun lobby.

Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas is at least the 165th mass shooting since January 2009, and the ninth mass shooting this year. Everytown’s analysis of mass shootings from 2009 to 2016 is available here.

“Our hearts go out to the families affected by the devastating shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. In the wake of yet another mass shooting, Virginians demand to know why Ed Gillespie, Jill Vogel and John Adams are not renouncing support from the National Rifle Association and insisting that the NRA pull down its ads. It is beyond callous for the NRA to push its ‘guns everywhere, for anyone, with no questions asked’ agenda in a country that is beset by a gun violence rate 25 times that of other developed nations. Virginia voters know who stands with us on the side of gun safety. That’s why we will vote for Ralph Northam, Justin Fairfax and Mark Herring on Tuesday. They will make the Commonwealth, and our country, safer from gun violence.”

The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Moms Demand Action have endorsed elect gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam, lieutenant governor candidate Justin Fairfax and Attorney General Mark Herring. Virginia volunteers with Moms Demand Action have poured their hearts into knocking on doors, making calls and talking with their friends, families and neighbors to help elect these candidates because they stand for fun safety.
