PORTLAND — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Christine Drazan and elected Tina Kotek to Governor.

“Governor-elect Kotek is a steadfast gun sense champion who has used every lever at her disposal to keep Oregonians safe from gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is grateful for Governor-elect Kotek’s staunch support for gun safety, and we’re eager to work with her to pass more lifesaving laws.”

“Tina Kotek is the gun sense leader that Oregon needs, and we’re proud to support her in this victory,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Her commitment to passing common-sense gun laws will save lives in communities across the state, and we will stand alongside her as she paves the way to a safer Oregon.”

“Governor-elect Kotek has demonstrated her boldness as a gun violence prevention leader as the Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives,” said Doreen Dodgen-Magee, a volunteer with the Oregon chapter of Moms Demand Action Doreen Dogden-Magee whose sister-in-law, Laura, and three nieces, Sarah (5), Rachel (3), and April (6 months) were shot and killed in Oregon by Laura’s husband, their father. “We look forward to supporting Governor-elect Kotek as she continues to champion common-sense gun laws.”
