DALLAS — The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement regarding the shooting death of Jordan Edwards. According to reports, 15-year-old Edwards was shot and killed by an officer of the Balch Springs Police Department late Saturday night as he was leaving a party. The officer reportedly fired multiple rounds into a vehicle the boy and four other teenagers were riding in. The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

STATEMENT FROM DONNA SCHMIDT, VOLUNTEER WITH THE TEXAS CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Our hearts go out to the family of Jordan Edwards, who on Saturday became one of the 93 Americans killed by senseless gun violence every day. His death reminds us that we must stand up and speak out for the marginalized communities that carry the burden of gun violence more than others. We are all Americans, and we all deserve to live safely in our communities, without the threat of gun violence lingering over our heads.”
