February 4, 2020

Today, Governor Wolf Announced a Slate of Gun Safety Policies in the 2020 Budget, Including Extreme Risk and Background Check Legislation

The Announcement Comes During National Gun Violence Survivors Week, a Time Focused on Sharing and Amplifying the Stories of Gun Violence Survivors

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the applauded Governor Tom Wolf for prioritizing gun violence prevention in his proposed budget for 2020. Calling the gun violence in Pennsylvania “a public health crisis,” Gov. Wolf specifically proposed extreme risk legislation — also known as a red flag law —  and mandatory background check legislation.

“We’re grateful to Governor Wolf for recognizing that the complex crisis of gun violence deserves a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach,” said Marybeth Christiansen, a volunteer with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “The policies proposed today are broadly popular with Pennsylvanians across party lines and proven to prevent shootings. Our legislators have a choice: either rise to the challenge and pass gun safety laws that we so desperately need, or face the voters in November.”
