Gigi Pierce Is at Least the Eleventh Trans Person Killed Nationwide This Year; Seventh Killed by Gun Violence
2017 Was the Deadliest Year on Record for Transgender People in the U.S. With at Least 28 Killed Nationwide, 20 of Whom Were Shot and Killed; 24 Were Trans Women of Color
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to the shooting death of a transgender woman in Portland last night. According to reports, Gigi Pierce, a transgender woman from Boise, Idaho was shot and killed Monday night.
There have been at least 11 transgender people killed nationwide this year; with seven being killed by gun violence. 2017 was the deadliest year on record for the transgender community in the United States, with at least 28 trans homicides. 20 trans people were killed with a gun last year, 17 of those shot and killed were trans women of color.
