Ohio Senate Passes HB 48 With Amendments After Powerful Testimony From Moms Demand Action Volunteers Before the Government Oversight and Reform Committee
Columbus, Ohio — The Ohio chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after the Ohio Senate last night passed a revised version of House Bill 48, a bill that would allow people to carry hidden, loaded handguns on some college campuses and in daycare centers.
STATEMENT FROM MICHELE MUELLER, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER FOR THE OHIO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“We remain deeply concerned about the prospect of hidden, loaded handguns in Ohio daycare centers and on college campuses, and we urge Gov. Kasich to exercise his veto power to protect our children and communities.
“We also recognize that the bill passed by the Ohio Senate last night includes important changes. During the debate over House Bill 48, volunteers in our chapter made clear we would not stand idly by while the gun lobby tried to hustle a dangerous bill through our legislature, and we’re grateful to legislators for revisiting parts of the bill.
“If House Bill 48 becomes law, we’ll work to educate daycare centers and college campuses about what it means for them and steps they can take to protect their communities.”
