North Dakota Moms Demand Action Volunteers, Everytown Applaud Passage of Bipartisan Bill That Will Help Keep Guns Out of the Hands of Domestic Abusers

March 20, 2017

Senate Bill 2309, Signed This Week by the Governor, Requires State Authorities to Submit Domestic Violence Restraining Orders to Background Check System

BISMARCK, N.D. — The North Dakota chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today thanked the state’s elected officials for enacting SB 2309, a bill that will protect domestic violence survivors and all North Dakotans by requiring domestic violence restraining order records to be submitted to the federal background check system, therefore helping to ensure that dangerous domestic abusers cannot pass a background check and purchase guns.

STATEMENT FROM CATHY LEE, VOLUNTEER WITH THE NORTH DAKOTA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“This bill will improve North Dakota’s contributions to the background check system, a system that protects all of us by keeping guns out of dangerous hands. I’m grateful to our leaders for coming together across party lines to take a meaningful step that will protect women and improve public safety.”
