North Dakota Moms Demand Action, Everytown Applaud Governor Burgum’s Signing of Bill That Would Help Keep Guns Out of the Hands of Domestic Abusers

April 3, 2017

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today thanked Governor Doug Burgum for signing HB 1402, a bill that clarifies law enforcement’s authority to arrest abusers who don’t comply with the terms of a domestic violence protection order.

STATEMENT FROM CATHY LEE, VOLUNTEER WITH NORTH DAKOTA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“I am proud of Governor Burgum’s decision to sign this bill, one that will make a real difference in the lives of many women in North Dakota. The presence of a gun makes it five times more likely domestic violence will turn deadly, and HB 1402 addresses this head-on. I’m thrilled the governor took this step to improve public safety and protect women.”
