Moms, Survivors, Mayor Roach Joined Congresswoman Lowey’s Press Conference Today in New York City

NEW YORK CITY— The New York chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and members of the Everytown Survivor Network joined with White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach, a member of the New York coalition of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, all part of Everytown for Gun Safety, to release the statements below in support of S. 551/H.R. 1076, the Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act of 2015, Congressman Peter King and Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s proposed legislation to close the Terror Gap.

STATEMENT FROM WHITE PLAINS MAYOR THOMAS ROACH, MEMBER OF THE NEW YORK COALITION OF MAYORS AGAINST ILLEGAL GUNS:

“The alarming truth is our current gun laws fail to prevent suspected terrorists from arming themselves on American soil. Mayors see the toll that gun violence takes on our neighborhoods, and if our leaders in Congress fail to close this gap, our cities and our communities will have to deal with the consequences. I applaud the leadership of Congresswoman Lowey and Congressman King on this issue and I strongly urge their colleagues in Congress to move quickly close the Terror Gap.”

STATEMENT FROM NATASHA CHRISTOPHER, MEMBER OF THE EVERYTOWN SURVIVOR NETWORK AND VOLUNTEER WITH THE NEW YORK CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“As a parent of a child who was shot and killed, I know all too well the devastating effects of gun violence on communities and families. That is why I strongly support Congressman King and Congresswoman Lowey’s efforts to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people like suspected terrorists. Many individuals on the terror watch lists are barred from boarding planes, but the government remains powerless to block gun sales to these same suspected terrorists. As a result, our communities are put at unnecessarily heightened risk. I urge Congress to take action to close the Terror Gap.”
