New York Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Respond to Shooting of Two Police Officers in Harlem

January 21, 2022

The New York chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement after two New York City police officers were shot, one fatally yesterday evening in the line of duty. 22-year-old Officer Jason Rivera was shot and killed, and 27-year-old Officer Wilbert Mora was critically injured while responding to a family dispute. The officers shot are the third and fourth N.Y.P.D officers shot in the line of duty this week. Details are still developing.

“Our hearts break for the law enforcement officers who were shot in the line of duty and for their families,” said Diane Rinaldo, a volunteer with the New York chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We cannot rest until all New Yorkers, including those putting their lives on the line to protect us, are safe from gun violence.”
