Senate Bill 259 Passed through the Senate and House with Bipartisan Support
SANTA FE, N.M. –The New Mexico chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today criticized Governor Susana Martinez for vetoing Senate Bill 259 – legislation that would have helped protect New Mexico’s women and children by keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.
STATEMENT FROM CHERYL HAASE, A VOLUNTEER WITH THE NEW MEXICO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“Today, Governor Martinez failed women and children by vetoing a bipartisan bill to help keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. In fact, this is the second time elected leaders in the state have failed to move forward common-sense gun legislation that would help protect New Mexicans. But, New Mexico Moms Demand Action volunteers have long memories. And while elected leaders may kowtow to the gun lobby, we’ll hold them accountable because the safety of our families and communities is on the line. We deserve better and our leaders can – and should – do better.”
