New Jersey Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action, Everytown Applaud New Jersey Senate for Passing Legislation to Support Survivors of Gun Violence

TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Students Demand Action, both a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement applauding the New Jersey Senate for passing S4803, which allows survivors to access state funds in the wake of gun violence. The legislation now heads to Governor Murphy’s desk.

“This legislation treats gun violence like the public health crisis it is and goes beyond just treating the symptoms,” said Shani Nuckols, a volunteer with the New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, “It supports a comprehensive approach that will help survivors heal and prevent gun violence in the future.”

“The best time to combat gun violence is before it happens,” said Jai Patel, a volunteer with Students Demand Action Hudson County. “This bill will help New Jersey stop gun violence at its source, so we can prevent the senseless shootings which have plagued our communities, schools, and homes.”

Hospital-based intervention programs engage patients while they are still in the hospital, often just hours after a violent injury, to reduce the chance of retaliation and violent injury recurrence.
