Several Michigan women are on their way to Washington D.C. to lobby members of Congress for stricter national gun laws. They’ll be part of a major lobbying effort on Wednesday, March 13.
This week marks the three month anniversary of the Newtown massacre that left 27 people dead, including 20 children.
Dr. Linda Brundage is with the group Moms Demand Action. She says the group supports the Second Amendment, but it still sees room for new laws to ban assault weapons and limit the size of ammunition magazines.
More than 30 thousand people are killed by guns every year in the U.S and Brundage says something must be done to reduce that number.
“If we had another public health epidemic like that it would be investigated and regulated,” says Brundage, “It’s what we want and what we want our legislators to hear from us.”
Brundage says the Moms Demand Action group is also planning a rally at the state capitol next month, to call for stricter national gun laws.
