BALTIMORE – The Maryland chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after a quadruple shooting in Baltimore Tuesday night. Although details are still unfolding, media reports state that two men were fatally shot and two more injured during a shooting in Northeast Baltimore. Police have not released information about possible suspects.

According to data from the FBI, through September 23, 2017, there have been a total of 257 homicides in Baltimore of which 86 percent were the result of shootings. There have also been 501 non-fatal shootings. The city has experienced an alarming increase in gun violence over the past two years. Baltimore City ended 2016 with a total of 318 homicides and 2015 with 344 homicides, 51 and 63 percent higher than the year-end total for 2014, respectively. In both 2015 and 2016, shootings were responsible for more than 85 percent of all homicides in the city.

Across the country, more than 90 Americans are killed by gun violence every day, and hundreds more are injured. More information about U.S. gun violence is available here.

STATEMENT FROM DANIELLE VEITH, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER WITH THE MARYLAND CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Once again, our community has witnessed the fatal shooting of two more beloved sons, Angelo West and Charles Hamilton. Our thoughts go out to their families, and the other victims who were injured last night. We can no longer afford to remain silent about the senseless gun violence plaguing our city. We urge our leaders to act now to implement common-sense measures to stop the shootings that are breaking apart so many families and communities. It’s too late for these families, but it’s not too late to save other families from this profound grief.”
