Reports Indicate That One Person Was Injured

NET Charter High School Shooting Is at least the 282st School Shooting Since 2013, 8th in Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement in response to the shooting that took place this afternoon at NET Charter High School. While details are still unfolding, initial reports indicate that one student suffered a graze wound while standing in the school parking lot. It is currently unclear where the shooter fired from.

According to Everytown research, this was at least the ninth school shooting nationwide in 2018. Since January 2013, there have been at least 282 school shootings across the country and eight in Louisiana.

STATEMENT FROM MARTHA ALGUERA, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE LOUISIANA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Gun violence impacts hundreds of Americans every day. This shooting is a tragic reminder that no place in our communities – even schools – is free from the threat of gun violence. My thoughts are with the student who was injured. As he recovers, this incident should be a reminder that there is more the politicians who represent us – in Baton Rouge and in Washington, D.C. – can do to protect our kids from gun violence.”
