Statement from Everytown Survivor Network on the Five-year Mark of the Aurora Theater Mass Shooting

July 20, 2017

WASHINGTON – The Everytown Survivor Network, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today issued the following statement in remembrance of the Aurora movie theater shooting, which took place five years ago today. Twelve people were killed in the July 20, 2012 attack, and 70 people were injured.

More than 90 Americans are killed with guns every day, and hundreds more are injured. More information about gun violence in the U.S. is available here. An Everytown analysis of mass shootings in the U.S., released earlier this year, is available here.

STATEMENT FROM CHRIS KOCHER, DIRECTOR OF THE EVERYTOWN SURVIVOR NETWORK:

“My thoughts are with each of the 12 families remembering their loved ones taken from them five years ago today, as well as those who were injured in this terrifying act of gun violence.

Over the past five years, the Aurora families and survivors have spoken out time and again about the need for life-saving gun safety policies that can help to prevent future tragedies. Their tireless dedication has inspired me and so many others working to reduce gun violence in this country, and their voices have made a difference in Colorado and across the nation.”
