Pennsylvania Moms Demand Action, Everytown Denounce Senate Education Committee’s Passage of Bill That Would Allow Guns into K-12 Schools

SB 383 Would Allow School Districts to Let Staff Carry Guns in Pennsylvania K-12 Schools

HARRISBURG, Pa.– The Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today denounced members of the Senate Education Committee for advancing Senate Bill 383 out of committee and onto the floor. If eventually signed into law, the bill would allow school districts to let educators and other school staff carry firearms in school corridors and classrooms.

STATEMENT FROM DEB MARTESLO, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“The Senate Education Committee has moved forward with a reckless and irresponsible bill today. Guns don’t belong in the places that our children play and learn. If anyone is going to be armed in our schools, it should be members of our law enforcement community or other highly trained security personnel. It’s completely disingenuous to suggest that this bill is about keeping kids safe. The reality is that this legislation puts kids at greater risk of being the victim of an unintentional shooting and can escalate conflict. I encourage state legislators to make sure this bill does not become law, and Moms Demand Action volunteers will work tirelessly to make sure that it does not.”
