Release Follows Largest and Deadliest Mass Shooting in Modern American History in Las Vegas

Video is Part of a National Effort to Send One Million Calls to #RejecttheNRA; Supports the Work of Thousands of Moms Demand Action Volunteers, Holding More than 700 Nationwide Events to Demand Congress #RejecttheNRA

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today released a new video, called “How to Call Congress” featuring dozens of creative leaders. On the heels of the largest mass shooting in modern American history, the video urges Americans to call on Congress to take action to stop the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda. The video includes cultural icons such as Tunde Adebimpe, Jack Antonoff, Elizabeth Banks, Zazie Beetz, Sheryl Crow, Anna Deavere Smith, Laura Dern, Kether Donohue, Gina Gershon, Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn, Sam Harris, Bob Kerrey, Melissa McCarthy, Moby, Janel Moloney, Julianne Moore, Natalie Morales, Julianne Nicholson, Zac Posen, Cynthia Rowley, Emily Saliers, Adam Scott, John Slattery and Emma Stone.

The video, viewable here, is produced by director Bart Freundlich. It is part of the launch of an effort to send one million calls to reject the NRA’s dangerous agenda, starting with calling on Congress to reject legislation that would roll back gun silencer safety laws and to reject “Concealed Carry Reciprocity.”

“No matter what our day jobs are, we all have a role to play in the fight for gun safety and I’m thrilled that my friends and colleagues have stepped up to encourage more people to take action,” said Julianne Moore, Academy Award-winning actress and chair of the Everytown Creative Council. “Calling your elected officials and making your voice heard is easier than it seems and makes the crucial difference in stopping bills that would weaken gun safety.”

“Everyone wants to know how they can help after Las Vegas,” said director Bart Freundlich. “I was really moved and heartened by the response of so many friends and colleagues who jumped at the opportunity to be a part of making this video.”

The video shows cultural leaders in their homes, making calls to Congress to ask lawmakers to reject legislation that would roll back gun silencer safety laws and to reject “Concealed Carry Reciprocity,” two pieces of legislation that are currently being weighed by Congress. Both would leave more Americans vulnerable to the threat of gun violence. The SHARE Act would gut gun silencer safety laws, while “Concealed Carry Reciprocity” would gut state gun safety laws.

Americans are asked to make similar phone calls to Congress – they can text “REJECT” to 644-33 to get connected to their representatives.

“We are honored to have so many cultural influencers join us in this pivotal moment in the gun violence prevention movement,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Americans know ‘thoughts and prayers’ are not enough, and are ready to channel their anger into action. In the wake of Las Vegas, volunteers and survivors across the country are holding more than 700 events to demand legislators reject the NRA’s deadly agenda. We are all committed to changing America, and it starts with sending Congress a clear message.”
