ICYMI: Everytown, Moms Demand Action launch ad response to NRA; gun lobby-backed Senators introduce new dangerous silencers bill just before escaping home for July 4 recess

July 5, 2017

It was a busy Independence Day weekend, and there are a few gun safety-related news items that are worth your attention.

First: On Friday, just before escaping town, Sens. Mike Lee and Mike Crapo introduced a new silencers bill that’s even more dangerous than the previous silencers legislation that had been introduced. Read more about the bill HERE.

Second: On July 3, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Moms Demand Action launched a paid digital ad responding to the NRA’s fear-mongering, race-baiting recruitment ad. The NRA ad has drawn condemnation from groups and individuals across the political spectrum – including gun owners and non-gun owners alike. One former CIA analyst even said the ad “fuels American extremists.” The NRA isn’t making any apologies, either. Instead, they’re doubling down and saying they’re “proud” of the ad, and describing those who’ve taken offense as “individuals who sanction arson“, who sanction property destruction, who sanction assault of innocent people.”

View our ad, “Freedom,” HERE.

The gun lobby’s ad described a dystopian view of who we are as a country, which isn’t reflective of who we are as Americans or the values that we share. The Everytown and Moms Demand Action ad presents the alternative perspective, because despite our differences, vast majorities of Americans agree on the need for common-sense gun laws.

If you want any more details on the new ad, or the new silencers legislation, please let us know.
