Idaho Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action Respond to Shooting at Towne Square Mall

October 25, 2021

The Idaho chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, today released the following statement after a shooting at Towne Square Mall in BoiseThree people and a police officer were shot and wounded, and two others were shot and killed in the incident. According to the police, one person is in custody. Details are still developing.

“We are heartbroken hearing about this shooting in our community,” said Jacquelyn Hamilton, a volunteer with the Idaho chapter of Moms Demand Action. “No one should have to fear gun violence in a mall, school, workplace, or anywhere in our community. It’s time for Idaho lawmakers to take our gun violence epidemic seriously and take action now.”

In an average year, 264 people die by guns in Idaho, and 281 are wounded. Despite this, earlier this year, Idaho lawmakers further weakened the state’s gun laws by passing legislation to nullify gun safety laws and make it harder for law enforcement officers to keep Idahoans safe.
