Georgia Moms Demand Action Respond to Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s Tweet Minimizing COVID-19

October 6, 2020

The Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action, part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement in response to Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) tweeting an edited video of President Donald Trump which minimizes COVID-19, and prompted the question from CNN National Security Analyst Susan Hennessey, “Does Loeffler think that the 7,000 Georgians who have died from it were weak and gave up?”

“Georgians have watched friends and family get sick and die from coronavirus, and Georgians have friends and family who’ve been shot and killed –– neither happened because they weren’t tough enough,” said Courtney Spriggs, a volunteer with the Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action. “But instead of acting, Kelly Loeffler stood by President Trump, who has rejected common-sense measures to keep us safe from gun violence and coronavirus. Her blatant insult to the more than 7,000 Georgians who have died from coronavirus and the more than 1,300 Georgians who die every year from gun violence is further proof that she’s lost touch with everyday Georgians.”
