Everytown Statement on Trump Announcing Next Failed Presidential Campaign

November 15, 2022

NEW YORK — Today, Everytown and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, released the following statements in response to Donald Trump — the NRA’s number one ally — announcing his next presidential campaign.

“During Trump’s time in office, the gun lobby treated the White House like a clubhouse, which is a big reason why the American people voted him out,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “The gun safety movement has defeated Donald Trump before, and we’ll do it again if he’s the nominee.”

“The only group more divided and dysfunctional than the NRA will be Donald Trump’s next failed presidential campaign,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Our grassroots army of volunteers helped beat Trump in 2020, delivering the strongest gun safety administration in history, and we’re eager to do it again if he’s able to win the nomination.”

In the 2020 election, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund spent nearly $8 million in TV and digital ads to support President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and defeat Donald Trump. Everytown Victory Fund’s TV and digital ads held President Trump accountable for failing to keep Americans safe from the dual health crises of gun violence and COVID-19, and for opposing bipartisan gun safety measures after he benefited from $31 million in political support from the NRA during the 2016 election. Everytown Victory Fund also ran ads in both English and Spanish, including ads contrasting how President Biden and Trump would lead America in an unprecedented time in our history.

Volunteers with Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action registered more than 100,000 young voters nationwide, launching virtual field offices as part of a student-run voter registration program to change the electorate ahead of the election. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 3.7 million calls and texts encouraging Americans to vote in 2020.
