Everytown, New Hampshire Moms Applaud Governor Hassan for Vetoing Legislation that Would Have Made it Harder for Law Enforcement to Protect New Hampshire Communities

June 16, 2016

SB 336 Would Remove Law Enforcement’s Ability to Block Concealed Carry Permits to Dangerous People

CONCORD, N.H.– The New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, praised Governor Maggie Hassan today for vetoing Senate Bill 336– legislation which would have made it harder for law enforcement officials to block dangerous people from carrying hidden, loaded weapons in public.

SB 336 would have undercut law enforcement officers by forcing them to grant concealed carry permits to applicants rather than allowing them to assess whether permit-seekers pose a danger to their communities.

STATEMENT FROM DEIDRE REYNOLDS, VOLUNTEER WITH THE NEW HAMPSHIRE CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:

“Governor Hassan once again deserves praise for vetoing dangerous gun legislation. New Hampshire’s concealed carry permit system works in no small part because law enforcement officers have the ability to block people who pose a danger to the public from carrying hidden, loaded weapons on our streets. SB 336 set out to do away with law enforcement’s role in the permitting process and defied common sense. As a mom and a proud Granite Stater, I trust New Hampshire law enforcement when it comes to keeping our families and communities safe. I’m proud to be represented by a governor who does too.”
