The NRA Spent More Than $30 Million To Elect President Trump; This Was His Fourth Consecutive NRA Convention Speech
WASHINGTON – Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence’s speeches today at the annual NRA Convention in Dallas.
STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:
“When NRA leaders spent $30 million to elect Trump, they couldn’t have asked for more: a President who would show up at their convention every year and proclaim his loyalty to their dangerous ‘guns everywhere’ policy. But no amount of fear-mongering will be enough to halt the NRA’s losing streak, which voters are poised to extend in the upcoming midterms.”
STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“While President Trump works to strengthen his ties to the gun lobby, more than 90 Americans are shot and killed every day, and hundreds more are wounded. Voters need to send a clear message to the President and every other lawmaker willing to kiss the ring at the NRA convention: Your constituents will do everything in our power to throw you out in November.”
Tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. outside Dallas City Hall, volunteers with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and the Everytown Survivor Network, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, will participate in a “Rally4Reform” alongside students. Everytown for Gun Safety is cosponsoring the student-led rally.
Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Methodist Church in Dallas, hundreds of Texas advocates and gun violence survivors from around the country will hold a Grassroots Day of Action to train new activists and survivors to engage in the fight for gun safety ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, train students to become organizers and take on the NRA’s dangerous “guns everywhere” agenda that contributes to gun violence that kills 96 Americans every day and injures hundreds more.
