Early Voting Begins Today: Moms Demand Action Urges Mainers to Vote for Gun Sense Candidates Up and Down the Ballot

October 5, 2020

As early voting begins in Maine, the Maine chapter of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement urging voters to make their voices heard and vote for gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

“The gun violence in this country is unacceptable, and it’s up to us to elect candidates who will do something about it,” said Lynn Ellis, volunteer with the Maine chapter of Moms Demand Action. “As early voting starts, we urge Mainers to check whether their candidates support common-sense gun laws that will respect their Second Amendment rights. We need to elect leaders up and down the ballot that won’t sit by while people in Maine are impacted by gun violence.”

Between now and Election Day, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand volunteers will phone bank and text bank to provide information on polling locations and get out the vote for gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

In June, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund endorsed Maine Speaker of the House Sara Gideon for U.S. Senate in Maine, lauding her commitment to gun safety. A full list of candidates who have received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction is available at gunsensevoter.org.
