Colorado Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Celebrate Moms Demand Action Volunteer Rachel Friend’s Win in Race for Boulder City Council

November 6, 2019

Rachel Friend Joins Dozens of Moms Demand Action Volunteers Elected to Public Office Since its Founding in 2012

BOULDER, Colo. — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, released the following statements applauding Rachel Friend for winning her race for Boulder City Council.

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“For nearly seven years, Moms Demand Action volunteers across the country have shown they’ll do whatever it takes to keep their communities safe. Now, many volunteers are taking their advocacy to the next level by running for elected office and I know that as lawmakers, they will be the ultimate gun sense champions.”

STATEMENT FROM ANN MICHELLE HILL, A VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE COLORADO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Gun violence is a public health crisis that can no longer be ignored, which is why Rachel ran for office – and won. As a member of the Boulder City Council, we know that Rachel will do everything she can to keep our families safe and stand up to gun extremists here in Colorado.”

Earlier this year, Moms Demand Action volunteer Movita Johnson-Harell, a Philadelphia-based gun violence survivor, was endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and won a special election for Pennsylvania House of Representatives District 190. Moms Demand Action volunteer Christine McGrath was also endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund earlier this year, and she won her race for Verona Town Council in New Jersey

Moms Demand Action volunteers know that gun violence kills 100 Americans every day and wounds hundreds more – and they are running for office to enact change and stand up to the gun lobby’s priorities.
