Reports Indicate One Person Was Shot and Injured; the Suspected Shooter, a 14-Year-Old, Is in Custody
PALMDALE, Calif. – The California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to news of a shooting at Highland High School in Palmdale. While details are still unfolding, reports indicate that one person was shot and injured. The suspected shooter, a 14 year-old, is in custody.
According to Everytown research, this is at least the 41st incident of gunfire on or onto school grounds in the U.S. in 2018. Everytown defines these incidents as any time a firearm discharges a live round inside or into a school building or on or onto a school campus or grounds, as documented by the press.

“My heart goes out to the victim of the shooting at Highland High School in Palmdale and to all the students, teachers and administrators placed on lockdown this morning.
“Students can’t learn if they don’t feel safe. We cannot accept this as the norm, and with gun violence leaving more than 90 people dead in our country each day and hundreds more injured, we have to do more to prevent gun violence in our communities.”
