The California chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement applauding the California Department of Justice for launching the historic Office of Gun Violence Prevention’s (OGVP). The office was launched today at United Playaz in San Francisco, in front of the mural created through the Everytown #WearOrange Nationwide campaign against gun violence campaign.
“Gun violence is a public health crisis in California, and there’s more we can do to save lives,” said Clare Senchyna, a survivor with the California chapter of Moms Demand Action. “The launch of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention is an important step forward for our state, and we are proud to stand alongside Attorney General Bonta as he works to make California a safer place to live.”
“California continues to lead the nation in gun violence prevention measures, taking comprehensive approaches to addressing this epidemic,” said Alex Navarro, volunteer with the California chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We are thankful to AG Bonta and Assemblymember Mia Bonta for prioritizing saving lives.”
Located within the DOJ, the OGVP’s mission is to reduce gun violence and the related injuries and trauma. The office will work with partners in state and across the country to study policy and data and develop strategies to address the gun violence epidemic.
