Ballots are Going Out Today: Moms Demand Action Urges Coloradans to Vote for Gun Sense Candidates Up and Down the Ballot

October 12, 2020

As ballots are being sent out to voters today, the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, released the following statement urging voters to make their voices heard and vote for gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

“There could not be more at stake in this year’s election and Coloradans have a real opportunity to make their voices heard. Sen. Gardner has proven time and again that he puts the gun lobby ahead of our safety but we have the chance to vote him out and elect John Hickenlooper, a gun sense champion,” said Leslie O’Brien, volunteer with the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We have 67 gun sense candidates up and down the ballot who have vowed to make common-sense gun safety policies a top priority and with gun violence getting worse every year in Colorado, voting for gun sense has never been more important.”

Between now and Election Day, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers will phone bank, text bank, and safely go door to door through contactless lit drops to provide information on polling locations and get out the vote for gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund recently launched $1 million in television and digital ads against Gardner, slamming him for siding with Donald Trump amid the coronavirus pandemic, and benefiting from millions of dollars from the gun lobby while voting against common-sense gun safety legislation like requiring background checks on all gun sales.

Senator Gardner’s opponent, Governor John Hickenlooper, has taken on the gun lobby and won. As governor, Hickenlooper signed a law requiring background checks on all gun sales and limiting high-capacity magazines, making Colorado one of the first purple states to enact sweeping gun safety reform. Hickenlooper is running on a common-sense gun safety platform that includes support for federal legislation to require background checks on all gun sales.
