November 7, 2018

Moms Demand Action Volunteers Jennifer Longdon and Victoria Steele Won Races for the Arizona State House and Senate, Respectively

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Arizona chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, released the below statement following the victory of Moms Demand Action volunteers who ran for office in the state. This is an important victory for the Arizona chapter of Moms Demand Action. Jennifer Longdon and Victoria Steele, who won races for the Arizona House and Senate, respectively, were active volunteers with Moms Demand Action prior to running for office. Both Longdon and Steele were endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund.

  • Jennifer Longdon was elected to represent Arizona House District 24. In 2004, she was paralyzed in a drive-by-shooting, changing her life instantly. Following the shooting, Longdon became a volunteer with the Arizona chapter of Moms Demand Action to advocate for gun violence prevention policies.
  • Victoria Steele was elected to represent Arizona Senate District 9. Prior to her run for office, Steele was an active volunteer with Moms Demand Action. She demonstrated her commitment to gun violence prevention as a member of the Arizona House from 2013 to 2016.

STATEMENT FROM JESSICA MANOS, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE ARIZONA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

Having volunteered with them as part of the Arizona chapter of Moms Demand Action, I know that Jennifer and Victoria are both determined to to do everything they can to keep our families safe. I look forward to working with them to build a culture of responsible gun ownership in Arizona.”

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“For more than five years, Moms Demand Action volunteers and gun violence survivors have pushed lawmakers to enact common-sense gun laws. Now, our volunteers are the leaders who will create laws to keep American families safe. Winning candidates like Jennifer and Victoria are proof that gun safety is a winning issue at the ballot box. A new wave of gun sense champions has emerged, and I couldn’t be more proud.”
