July 4th 2013
Celebrate your love for your country and your children this July 4th! As mothers, we’re coming together to Declare Independence from Gun Violence—and from the gun lobby that contributes to our national epidemic. Join us in creating hand-made paper flags, marching in community parades, reciting our Declaration of Independence from Gun Violence, and contacting your elected officials. Help us spread the word that gun sense is patriotic!
Join Community Parades
Chapters around the country are participating in neighborhood and community parades. Check the list at the right for parades in your area. The list is updated daily. During the parade, wave your paper flags (DIY instructions below). Either before or after the parade, you’ll join in reading the Declaration of Independence from Gun Violence. Take pictures and videos, post them on Facebook, and share them with us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Tweet your images using the hashtags #GunSensePatriot and #MomsDemandAction.
Decorate Hand-Made Flags
A perfect July 4th activity to do with your kids! Create a paper flag using the instructions below. Then, post your flags in your lawn, wave them at Fourth of July parades, bring them to neighborhood barbecues, or hand them out to friends. Send images of your flags to email@example.com and tweet your images using the hashtags #GunSensePatriot and #MomsDemandAction.
Participate in our Week of Action
In the days leading up to the 4th, contact your legislators to demand that they protect the life, liberty and safety of our kids. Tell them that gun sense is patriotic!
Let Freedom Ring: Call your Members of Congress! From 1:00 – 3:00 EST, call your members of Congress and demand that they enact common-sense gun legislation during this session. Tell them you’re a mom, you vote, and you’ve had enough with the gun lobby’s outsized influence on the legislative process.
Use our call-in tool to connect directly with your legislators
Take it to Twitter: From 1:00 – 3:00, tweet your members of Congress & tell them what freedom means to you. Whether it’s freedom to feel safe when you drop off your child at school, freedom to vote for leaders who put their children’s safety first, or a Declaration of Independence from the gun lobby, make your voice heard! Be sure to include the hashtags #GunSensePatriot and #MomsDemandAction.
