Kansas Moms Demand Action Volunteers Met with Legislators During Annual Advocacy Day, Urging Their Representatives to Support House Bill 2074

HB 2074 Would Resolve Rising Concerns About Guns on Campus

TOPEKA, Kan. – More than 100 volunteers with the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and the Everytown Survivor Network, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, and Kansans Against Campus Carry met with their representatives today and urged them to support HB 2074, a bill that would prevent colleges and universities from being forced to either allow hidden, loaded handguns inside campus buildings or provide expensive security measures at every building entrance. “Today we showed legislators that we’re watching closely and are committed to making our voices heard,” said Jo Ella Hoye, volunteer with the Kansas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We urge our leaders to keep college campuses safe by passing this important proposal.”

As a student, I don’t believe guns on campus will make students any safer,” said Regan Tokos, a student at Kansas State University. “In fact, the majority of students are not in favor of allowing guns on campuses, and I certainly don’t want that to be a part of my college experience.”
