LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — Thursday, the President called on Congress to pass stricter gun laws. He also called on Americans to make their voices heard. Appearing in the east room of the White House surrounded by moms who lost children to gun violence, Barack Obama warned Congress not to get “squishy” on the push to limit ammunition clips and expand background checks.
Dozens in Kentuckiana joined the national fight for gun laws, rallying on the steps of the courthouse as part of a national Day of Action. The crowd was calling for very specific regulations to reduce gun violence, including universal background checks.
In the days after the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., cries for stricter gun control grew stronger and more insistent. With the faces of those murdered children in the back of her mind, Connie Coartney joined the Louisville branch of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. The group was formed by an Indianapolis mom shortly after the Newtown tragedy.
